Junior Alyssa Triner (’19), daughter of Scott and Tricia Triner, has verbally committed to play Softball and continue her education at Trevecca Nazarene University next school year.
What led you to your decision to attend your chosen college?
After visiting TNU, I realized the atmosphere was exactly what I was looking for, it was a smaller campus near a big city. I feel that I will be challenged both academically and physically at Trevecca. Coach Tyree was a big help in my decision because of his coaching style and the atmosphere he creates for his players. I was also looking for a school preferably in the south, so Nashville sounded good to me!
What other schools did you consider?
Ohio Dominican and Trine University were two schools that I considered. I really enjoyed both of their campuses and coaches, but I felt that Trevecca was a better fit. I felt at home on Trevecca’s campus and field.
Do you know what you want to study?
I would like to be a Dermatologist, so I would need to be on a Pre-Med track. I’ve decided to minor in Pre-Med and choose another major in the medical field so that I will be able to come out of college with a degree, before pursuing medical school.
When did this school come into the picture?
Trevecca was first brought to my attention in the fall of 2016. I did not pursue any further interest until the following fall when Coach Burbrink brought TNU up again. I decided to find out more about it and I realized it could potentially be my future school. I contacted Coach Tyree and the rest is history.
Have you visited the school? If so, when? How did it go?
Yes, I visited Trevecca last fall on our way to Chattanooga for a tournament. The visit went very well and I was very impressed with the campus and the field, I couldn’t believe the dugouts had heaters!
Did anyone help you through the recruiting process? What kind of help did they provide?
My coaches, Tim Gregory, Tim Shepherd, and Dave Burbrink helped a ton. They put me out in front of all different schools in my strongest positions to show what I had to offer. They pushed me to become the athlete they knew I could be. Dave Burbrink actually put me in contact with Coach Tyree which helped speed up my recruiting process. My dad was a huge supporter as well. He went out of his way to help me practice and prepare me for my future. I’m very thankful for all the time my coaches and my dad spent to make this dream into a reality.
What are your strengths?
My strengths would be my versatility, athleticism, and my high standards. My athleticism gives me the opportunity to play multiple positions, with the ultimate goal to positively contribute to the team. Having very high standards benefits me on and off the field because it pushes me to my limit to become the best I could possibly be.
What do you think you need to improve before starting college?
My mental and physical game can always be improved, especially because of the increased competition at the collegiate level.
