Athletic Director Scott Kaufman has announced that Adam Meyer will be the new head coach for the Firebird wrestling program effective immediately. Meyer had served for the past three years as an assistant coach on former head coach Tony Bradberry’s staff.

Bradberry, a Lakota alum and state placer for the Firebirds as an athlete in 2006, had headed the Firebird program for the past four seasons but the increased time demands of his primary occupation precluded the continuation of his heavy coaching load. “I’d like to express my thanks to Tony for his leadership of our wrestling program which included two sectional championships during his four-year tenure here.”

Adam Meyer had a long and varied wrestling history before joining the West staff three years ago. He has coached for seventeen years, with eleven of those years as a head coach. He led the Indian Hill program from 2004 to 2008, and the Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy program from 2008 to 2014, taking wrestlers from both schools to the Ohio State Meet.

Prior to his coaching days, Meyer was a state placer for Reading high school in 1997 and later a varsity letter winner for Ohio Northern University. He graduated from Xavier University with a BA degree in 2005 followed by an MA degree in elementary education in 2007. He currently teaches in the Reading school system.

We caught up with Coach Meyer and asked him what his vision or goals are for the wrestling program? “I’m extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity. Lakota West has a storied tradition and I’m honored to be apart of it. My goal is to grow the Lakota West wrestling brand by creating a culture of leadership and excellence. I want to provide an environment where each and every student-athlete that walks into the wrestling room has positive and impactful experience.”
