Allie Cummins has made her decision, she will continue her education and her softball career at Miami University. This announcement was made yesterday by both Cummins and the RedHawks.

In Cummins first high school softball season in 2015, she generated college interest by setting the Lakota West single-season batting average record, and by being named to multiple all star teams including the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) first team.  She then committed to Akron University, of the MAC league in the summer of her sophomore year.  This led to her signing with the Rockets on the November 8, 2017 National Letter of Intent signing day.

Cummins capped off her senior season by leading the Firebirds to a best-ever second place finish in the Ohio Division 1 State Tournament. Following the season she was named to her third consecutive Division 1 all Ohio team as a shortstop, becoming the first and only athlete in Lakota West history to be voted to three all-state first teams in any sport (softball, baseball, basketball, football, etc.).  It was also during her senior season that Cummins was named All GMC first-team shortstop for the fourth consecutive year. At that point (June 1, 2018) she asked for a release from her commitment to Akron reopening her recruiting process. This process was concluded on July 16th with Cummin’s, and Miami University’s announcement that Allie was staying close to home by joining the Red Hawks.

In summary, Lakota West softball keeps fourteen official batting records for both single-season and career (see westfirebirds.com softball archives). At the conclusion of her high school career, Cummins was the holder or co-holder of ten of the fourteen season records and twelve of the fourteen career records. Her career records for the home run (26), runs batted in (158), and runs scored (148) will also stand as Lakota School District (Lakota, Lakota East, and Lakota West) records.

Congrats Allie! We wish you great success at Miami! #WestPride
