Wilmington, OH (August 25, 2018)

Saturday the boys and girls cross country teams kicked of the regular season by winning both the boys and girls races at the Finish Timing Classic at Wilmington College. Both teams had great performances from top to bottom.

On the boys’ side, Sophomore Zach Beneteau led the way with a great early season time of 16:47.  More than a full minute faster than Beneteau’s time on the same course last season.  Senior Alex Kelker and Sophomore Cole Cronk also broke the 17:00 minute barrier. Junior Tyler Kovak and Sophomore Zach Plotkin rounded out the scoring for the Firebirds.  The Firebirds won the meet over preseason OATCCC #5 state ranked Centerville by 10 points and #3 state ranked division 2 Unioto.

For the girls Senior Hannah Riesenberg led the way with a 3rd place overall finish and a time of 21:16. Junior Americus Land, Senior Olivia Risener, Freshman Gwyn Barnholtz, and Freshman Katelyn Benoit also scored for West.  The Firebirds narrowly defeated West Clermont 57-54.

All athletes will be back in action Saturday the 8th of September with a split squad day. Athletes will compete at Princeton and Tiffin. Congratulations to all West CC Runners for a fine performance.
