West Chester, OH (December 18, 2019)

Lakota West Athletic Department hosted an athletic signing event on Wednesday afternoon in the auxiliary gym on the first day of the NCAA Football Early Signing period.  Seniors David Afari and Daved Jones signed their commitment letters to continue their academic and athletic careers at their respective schools.  They become the 160th and 161st football players in Lakota West history to make the college football commitment.

The next Lakota West signing event will occur on Wednesday, February 5th, the first day of the “regular” football signing period and the last event will occur on April 15th for all remaining athletes.

David Afari-Football-Miami University

The 5’11”, 200lb running back was a three year varsity starter for the Firebirds. He wasted no time making a name for himself after leading the Greater Miami Conference in rushing his sophomore season. Afari went on to lead the Firebird team in rushing and touchdowns for the last three seasons. He finished his career with 2689 yards rushing (3rd in school history), 28 touchdowns (6th in school history), and 438 receiving yards.  He was named First Team All-GMC in 2017 and 2019. He was also named All-State Special Mention in 2019. “David Afari was the “Swiss Army Knife” for our team.  He could do it all.  Running by people and/or through them seemed so natural for David.  He lead our team in rushing and receiving.  His versatility will make him an instant impactful player at Miami University,” said Lakota West Head Football Coach Tom Bolden.

Daved Jones-Football-University of Cincinnati

The 6’2”, 215lb linebacker was a three year varsity starter for the Firebirds. Jones finished his career at Lakota West with a total of 143 tackles placing him in the top 10 in Lakota West history. In addition to his tackles, he also finishes with three touchdowns, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, four sacks and one interception for his career. He was named First Team All-GMC in 2019 and 2018 in addition to Second Team All-GMC in 2017.  He also became the 4th Lakota West linebacker to be named All-State (3rd team) since 1997. “Daved Jones was the foundation of our football team.  His character, ability, and leadership were unmatched.  Daved has the integrity, focus, and determination to be a very impactful player on and off the field at the University of Cincinnati,” said Lakota West Head Football Coach Tom Bolden.
