The Lakota West Track and Field team was well represented at the State Track and Field meet this past weekend. The West group of all seniors put together quite the weekend. It all started with Annika Kinley tying the bow on her outstanding high school career. Annika battled in the girls high jump and finished 2nd place overall. She was the highest placing girl athlete from southwest Ohio. Annika cleared 5’7 to claim runner up. Annika also ran the 400m, running at 59 on tired legs. She will go down as one of the best to ever walk the halls of Lakota West. Annika finishes her west career with 2 school records in the high jump and 400m. She will continue her career at UC next year. The good finishes continued on the boys side.

The boys 4×800 quartet of Cole Cronk, Zach Beneteau, Sergio Negroe and Zach Plotkin put on a show at the state meet. The boys completed the trifecta winning state in cross country, Indoor 4×800 and the outdoor 4×800. The boys raced to a school and district record of 7:47 putting them at the top of the podium. It was a true TEAM performance by the boys as they all ran season best splits. That school record will be around for a very long time. Cole Cronk finished out the state meet for West with a valiant run in the 3200. This is truly a remarkable group of young men who left it all on the track. The Firebird community should be extremely proud of our state competitors as they represented Lakota West in tremendous fashion.

This closes the book on the 2021 track and field season. The coaching staff would like to thank our seniors and the entire firebird community. West Track and Field has become a force in Ohio and the future is extremely bright.
