The Firebirds took on the Middletown Middies on Saturday in their first dual meet action of the year. The dual started at 132 pounds, where Junior Ty Bastin got the team off to a good start with a 4-3 win. The wrestling Firebirds then reeled off eight consecutive wins to take a 46-0 lead. The Firebirds forfeited the last match at heavyweight to Middletown, making the final score of the dual 46-6.
The day’s match was between Junior Matthew Szczepaniak and Jacob Castillo at 144 pounds. The pair wrestled just a week prior, with Matthew being victorious by a score of 12-8. This match saw a similar result; however, Matthew was able to increase his lead and won by a 19-7 major decision.
The Firebirds are back in action at home this Friday, January 21st, as they take on Lakota East. The JV and Freshmen match starts at 5 pm, and the Varsity match starts at 6:30 pm.
