The Firebirds competed in three duals over the weekend, going 2-1. On Friday, the team hosted Lakota East and traveled to Fairfield to take on the Indians and the Oak Hills Highlanders.

Friday’s match against East was an exciting, back and forth battle that came down to the final whistle. The Firebirds had a slim 34-33 lead heading into the final match at heavyweight, where senior Joseph Jackson, who was wrestling up from 215 to 285, took the mat. With the dual on the line, he was able to seal the dual with a 5-1 win. Key wins for the Firebirds came from junior Ty Bastin (126), sophomore Micah Reynolds (138), and junior Will Allen (157). Final dual score:

Lakota West 37 Lakota East 33

On Saturday, the team traveled to Fairfield to take on Oak Hills and Fairfield. The Firebirds were matched up with Oak Hills first and won 46-23. Key victories came from senior Kendra Hiett (113) and freshmen Chase Riggle (120), and Josh Allen (150). The last dual of the day was to host Fairfield. The Firebirds got off to a slow start, and the Indians were able to build up a big lead. The Firebirds made a valiant effort down the stretch with wins from juniors Matthew Szczepaniak (144) and Cory Whatley (190), but the lead was too much and, the Firebirds came out on the short end with a final score:

Lakota West 36 Fairfield 40

The team is back in action this week as they head to Huber Heights Wayne on Thursday to take on the Wayne Warriors and the Dayton Stebbins Indians. Wrestling starts at 6pm.
